After the return of José María Zeberio, Executive Secretary of the WRF, and Jose Antonio Osaba, IYFF Campaign Coordinator, from New York, WRF wishes to inform you about the activities of the four- day stay and the excellent results that were obtained.

It began with a visit to the FAO office, due to the significance of the Resolution which had been adopted unanimously by the 37th Conference of FAO, Rome 2nd July 2011, requesting the UN to declare the International Year of Family Farming-IYFF for 2014.

During this visit, the FAO staff showed full disposition towards the technical support of the process aimed at the declaration of the IYFF by the UN General Assembly, which has started its works recently.

During the remaining time, Embassies which had responded favourably to the request for appointment were visited, in the midst of heavily overloaded agendas due to the beginning of the General Assembly: Brazil, Colombia, El Salvador, Spain, Philippines and Switzerland.

It can be confirmed that there is a solid determination to pursue the adequate procedure in order to achieve the declaration of the IYFF before the end of this year.

Lessons of good diplomacy have been received, and perceived a great openness towards Family Farming, which is considered a key element for the development of peoples.

WRF feels encouraged to convey to all of you a real optimism regarding the IYFF declaration in 2011, and invites everybody to keep on working in each and every country in order to make better known the IYFF meaning and content.
