The Informal International Steering Committee for the official program of the International Year of Family Farming (IYFF) 2014, lead by FAO, started its path on November 27, 2012, with the objective of stimulating and guiding the efforts generated around the program that will be developed by the FAO on the occasion of this important event. This meeting served to discuss and exchange proposals on the first steps that are being taken in the preparation of the official program for the IYFF 2014.

This body will meet regularly two representatives from each of the regional groups of member countries, as well as FAO, IFAD, World Food Program and Biodiversity, as dependent agencies of the UN; the European Union; spokesmen of the private sector; and civil society organizations that have supported since 2008 the campaign for the IYFF, represented by the World Rural Forum.

The coordinator of the IYFF 2014 protagonized by the civil society, José Antonio Osaba, participated in this first meeting, on behalf of all the organizations that support and collaborate in celebrating this international year.

Although any formal decision was postponed to the next meeting, the Informal International Steering Committee (ISC) recommended the promotion of a country-driven approach, based on national agendas related to Family Farming, combining all programmes and efforts in the country together.
